Mention Gresham Books to someone and they’ll likely say ‘Oh, the hymn book people’. But hymn books are not all we do. We also supply beautiful handmade choir and music folders, embossed with a school’s crest or orchestra’s name, designed to hold music, order of service booklets and presentations.

We’ve been rather busy with folders this year. Schools, choirs, orchestras and bands come to us for their music folders because they know our folders will add the finishing touch to their performance. We supply folders to their exact specification – with one or two pockets, or none, with or without holding cords, numbered, with instrument names, with brass corners or not, hand strap and pen holder, and in a range of colours. In fact, we can produce just about anything they need. All our folders are handmade to order so are completely bespoke to the organisation they are made for. And they are made to last!

Here are a few examples of folders we’ve made recently.

Fettes College Chapel Choir

Fettes College are a regular customer and we very much enjoy working with them. We recently produced 12 new chapel choir folders, numbered for instruments, with brass corners to protect them from knocks and pockets to keep music safe. The new folders have now joined older folders in the school’s chapel to give the choir many years of use.

To Russia with Love!

The Britten-Shostakovich Festival Orchestra is a unique bi-national ensemble bringing young people of conservatoire age from the UK and Russia together in a shared cultural experience. They will shortly be touring Russia with performances in Sochi, Moscow and St Petersburg and needed new folders for their tour. They knew what they needed and we were happy to produce the folders for them. However, all didn’t go as smoothly as expected. Making the folders was easy: getting them to Russia ready for the performances proved a little more tricky, but the problems were quickly solved and the folders are even now winging their way to Sochi for the first performance on Monday 9th September.

Schola Cantorum

We’ve been working with Dean Close for many years, both for the school choir and the Abbey, and the latest set of folders setting off on their travels today do look rather smart, if I say so myself.

To flop no more…

When the Director of Music from More House School contacted us for new choir folders, she asked for a mechanism to stop the folders opening completely when they were in use. We chatted with our folder maker and he suggested a ribbon and buckle device. The folders were made and the new device works perfectly. No more flopping open folders in the middle of a performance!

City of London School for Girls Choir

City of London School for Girls are celebrating their 125th anniversary this year. In March the Senior Choir, Orchestra and String Ensemble held a concert at the Barbican to celebrate the 125th anniversary. The Director of Music came to us to produce special commemorative folders for the event, and for musical events throughout the year. We were happy to help and a block was created to emboss the folders with the 125 years logo. The concert was very well received and we are sure the folders will see them through for many years to come.
